Driver re-import reports partial success, but package is empty

Hi... I found this article on the 2007 forum but I'm not sure it applies to me with 2012. (http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/systemcenter/en-US/c9fcff89-421b-4ec3-88eb-78fb52854356/can-not-reimport-drivers-or-add-to-driver-package)

A previous employee had imported drivers and I went through and tried to clean up, first drivers i brought in worked fine. Subsequent drivers have not gone very well. I checked all the individual drivers source directory as the folder structure had all changed but that doesn't change anything. I run through a driver import and at the end (with the distribute content checked) but it doesn't distribute the content and if you check the package folder its empty. It goes through all the motions but in the end I do get this error message:

Windows 7 x86 HP 8470p_v1 - The SMS Provider reported an error.

When I check the drivercatalog.log, most of the errors are that the drivers have already been imported into the catalog. There are a couple that are imported just fine.

I check the SMSProv.log and get this (sorry if i copied too much in there, I bolded the errors at the end):

Hi, Did you have any luck with this? I have a very similar if not the same issue.

Thanks

Does DriverCatalog.log contain additional useful information?
September 25th, 2013 7:09am

I'm having a similar problem. I'm importing 64-bit drivers for a Lenovo T510 and even when importing them into a newly created driver package, I get the error "The SMS provider reported an error" along with an empty package.

All drivers are reported in the dialog as having been imported successfully. Checking DriverCatalog.log, when I tried importing the drivers the AMT driver failed with "This driver does not have a valid version signature. Failed to initialize driver digest. Code 0xe0000102" All my other imports have "this driver has already been imported into the driver catalog" (as I had previously imported them about a month ago, not realizing the driver package was empty).

I then removed the AMT driver from the folders I was using to import into SCCM. Once again I got the SMS provider error along with all drivers showing up as already having been imported, yet I still have an empty package.

I imported one group of drivers at a time and got the following errors:

Error: Some driver(s) can not be imported successfully. See following details.

Success: The following driver(s) were imported:
 NVIDIA Quadro FX 880M
 NVIDIA High Definition Audio
 NVIDIA Stereoscopic 3D USB controller

Error: Some driver package(s) are updated successfully. But some are not.

---

Error: Some driver(s) can not be imported successfully. See following details.

Success: The following driver(s) were imported:
 Intel(R) WiFi Link 5300 AGN
 Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless-N 100
 Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 3160

Error: Some driver package(s) are updated successfully. But some are not.

---

In drivercatalog.log the Quadro batch of drivers errored out as having been imported already, but the drivers are not in the driver package. The Intel drivers have no entries in the log file at all, and also did not import into the driver package.

My colleague changed the driver folder to a location where the SMS provider didn't had rights

I'm having an exactly same issue with some Lenovo driver packages.

My driver source folder is on the same server as where CM is installed. What is the account that SMS Provider uses on a local server? System?

Any ideas?

In drivercatalog.log I got only these:

This driver has already been imported into the driver catalog.  (CI_ID=SCOPEID_550DEB38-65DC-43F7-A11E-847C352DA9E7/DRIVER_F2B27DEBC403F59D5CFE30B1788B13DBCE74F77E_89442E9B090D43B537261BF2EA595DD4FAF11C7B1F99B8DBEF3C602225EFCF4B) DriverCatalog 1.10.2014 18:03:04 8268 (0x204C)

After I open the driver package in the CM console it shows as empty and contains nothing.

Anyone, any ideas what I could try? I just cannot think that this could be a permission issue.

I tested and grapped drivers from VMware virtual machine and imported them without problems. I have tried few different Lenovo driver packages and they give same error.

I resolved this issue. Some of the drivers in ConfigMgr had source path that didn't exist anymore. When I fixed the source paththe driver import process finished without errors.

For whatever reason I was able to get it too add them to the driver package when I preformed the steps outside of the Add Driver wizard.

1. Navigated to the Software Library > Operating Systems > Drivers.
2. Sorted by Categories (located the category that wasn't importing correctly Windows 8.1 x64 - Surface Pro 3 which I defined in the original Import Wizard).
3. Highlighted all the drivers I wanted.
4. Right clicked Edit > Driver packages.
5. Added them to the driver package.

It then dumped the driver files to the package source as normal... very strange.  I will test deployment to make sure SCCM sees these drivers.
