Drive wipe failed - inconsistent behaviour
Hello,
I have a scenario whereI am playing around with an XP - Win7 migration w/ USMT 4 (who isn't!) and for some reason the drive wipe has just failed because it could not delete a file.
This is strange because I am recloning the target disk after every attempt. I have dont this several times with the exact same source and the Wipe has completed fine, the problems I am working on are after win7 has been installed.
The log lines were something like:
Unable to delete file Docs & Settings\User\ahmbed.gz (0x80070020)
Unable to delete directory Docs & Settings\User (0x80070091)
Unable to delete Docs & Settings(0x80070091)
Then further down:
Failed to run the action: Apply Operating System Image. The directory is not empty.
What I'm worried about now is how to recover if this happens again. Has anyone else had this issue?
Things I can think of to handle:
Allow 'Apply OS' it to continue on error (though I don't really want to in case it really breaks)
Run a cmd line to search and delete everything except protected dirs
somehow add something in so a 'dir not empty' or 'file not deleted' return code is still interpreted as success..
Do these solutions have possibilites?
Thanks very much,
-Dan
ps. I know im playing with beta OS/Tools but this particular function is removed from all that, it's just trying to wipe a drive and if it was the os or tools failing I wouldn't be annoying you guys :p
