Download & Upload SSRS report doesn't save credentials in case of embedded data source
Hi, I have SSRS report (SQL Server 2008 R2) on report server with embedded / custom Data Source having 'Credentials stored securely in the report server' with username & password saved. Now I downloaded this report from report manager & uploaded same copy with different name on report manager. But this newly uploaded copy does not include saved credentials of embedded data source. Instead it by default selects another option 'Credentials supplied by the user running the report'. Is this expected behavior of SSRS (prompting credentials again for security reasons). Hello Saurabh, I am sorry for delay. I double checked your problem, and find this is an expected behavior. Based on my knowledge, all data connection will be stored in the table 'DataSource' on the report server. If you select the option 'Credentials stored securely in the report server', then it will store the user name and password with encrypted in the table. Therefore, the user cannot get the password and user name directly and only the reporting service can do so. When you upload a new report, the report server will find out the data resource in the report create a new entry in the DataSource table, and create a new entry for the uploaded report. Since the report does not contain any connection authentication information for security reason, the password and the user name will not imported automatically. Therefore, you will have the current behavior. To solve this kind of issue, we need reset the authentication information of the data source for uploaded report. I hope my answer is helpful to you.
