Dos the MOSS 2007 SP1 to SP2 upgrade perform flawlessly?
As some of you may know, Microsoft's support for WSS 3.0 and MOSS 2007 SP1 ends on April 28th. Considering this and the fact that my environment still runs SP1, I thought it would be great opportunity to upgrade. For those who have gone through this, Did it performed flawlessly? What about 12 hive customizations, are those files getting overwritten during install? Thank you.

Hi, I blogged the process for this here: http://www.stationcomputing.com/Sharepoint/How%20To%20Install%20Sharepoint%20Service%20Pack%202.aspx For me, whilst I didn't come across any issues and thats because I prepared. As with all upgrades you should ensure that you have a server and sharepoint farm backup. As for file customisations - take a look at this - it may help - it lists the file differences between sp1 and sp2 http://sharepointadminwiki.com/display/SharePointAdministrationWiki/SharePoint+12+Hive+File+Differences+from+SP1+to+SP2 Additionally, I would strongly advise you see this: http://blogs.msdn.com/sharepoint/archive/2009/05/21/attention-important-information-on-service-pack-2.aspx Hope this helps Geoff

Thank you Geoff. Current version is 12.0.0.6318. Is there a way I can check what updates should be installed before upgrading to SP2? As far as I can tell, only KB956056 & KB956057 are needed before, Is that right?

>Is there a way I can check what updates should be installed before upgrading to SP2? As is typical for Service Packs, SP2 includes the upgrades since SP1 (with the possible exception of the ones that came out up to a month before SP2). So you do not need to run any SharePoint fixes before upgrading SP1 to SP2. FAQ sites: (SP 2010) http://wssv4faq.mindsharp.com; (v3) http://wssv3faq.mindsharp.com and (WSS 2.0) http://wssv2faq.mindsharp.com Complete Book Lists (incl. foreign language) on each site.

Another question: In case I have modified NewForm.aspx and EditForm.aspx files, should I back them up before upgrading? Thank you again.
