Does any part of sql need to be installed if my database is located on a different server?
I'm going to be doing a migration after my installation from a 2007 instance to the 2012. I ran the system readiness check and am getting the "sql server service running account error' and 'sql server sysadmin rights'. So my qquestion is do I need to install sql server express or anything like that?

So you are going to try move the ConfigMgr database from a SQL Server 2007 instance to a SQL Server 2012 instance (assuming both SQL instance are remote from your site server)? I'm not sure that is supported or will work: http://blogs.technet.com/b/configmgrteam/archive/2012/04/17/configuration-manager-support-announcements-for-april-2012.aspx The ConfigMgr site server account requires local admin permissions in the OS on the system hosting the DB and sysadmin permissions in the SQL instance hosting the DB. You do not need any local SQL components. Jason | http://blog.configmgrftw.com
