Does Secure Store go on a separate SQL Serever or just a separate Named Instance?
I see in ee806889, "Plan the Secure Store Service (SharePoint Server 2010)", this line: "Create the secure store database on a separate application server running SQL Server. Do not use the same SQL Server installation that contains content databases." QUESTION: Does MSFT mean I need a separate SQL Server License and Installation, or merely do I need separate Named Instances (one for Content Databases and one for Secure Store Service) on the same SQL Server License and Installation??? -mrk

Hi, The secure store service preparation section in "Plan the Secure Store Service (SharePoint Server 2010) " is the best solution to deploy secure store service to seperate modules and improve the risk control. In my opinion, you don't have to install another sql server on another server. you can use the same sql server instance with the content databases.
