Documents upload managed by workflows !!!
Hi all, I'd like to know if it is possible to generate e-mail notifications sent to the person who upload a document to a document library (and also send a notification to some other people, like the manager of the uploader that should be retrieved from LDAP), and when someone download the document uploaded, the uploader will receive a notification Is that possible ? Cheers

Hi, In its simplest form that is Alerts from the library from which you want that function. Browse to the library, ACTIONS >> Alert Me . Then in the window that opens, you define Alert Title which is included in the Subject of the e-mail notification sent for the alert. In the Send Alerts To box, specify the recipients. Other options available is to specify for All Items , New Items that are added, Existing Items that are modified, Items that are deleted or Web Discussion updates . The e-mail could be sent immediately , delayed , or send a summary of the events . It is also possible using workflows and event handlers built using SharePoint Designer or Visual Studio. You will create a workflow that is triggered by an upload event and you specify the recipient objects.

Hi, Thank you for the answer. Just two more questions: 1- By default in MOSS 2007, there is no a mechanism (workflow) that catches the download event of a document from a document library, right ? 2- If yes, is there a possibility to do it using SP Designer ? Thanks in advance

Hi, Yes, there is no OOTB workflow but there are additions such as this one. Windows SharePoint Services Toolkit: Document Library Event Handler consists of two projects, SampleEventSinks and the WSS Event Monitor . The SampleEventSinks project contains several sample event sinks; the WSS Event Monitor is a stand-alone application that will display events as they occur on a document library. It's here http://download.cnet.com/Windows-SharePoint-Services-Toolkit-Document-Library-Event-Handler/3000-2064_4-10732190.html And here is a video on that as well http://channel9.msdn.com/shows/In+the+Office/Creating-and-Using-Event-Handlers-in-Windows-SharePoint-Services-V3/ About using SPD, a very big yes. Cheers! You've only got one life; help as many people as you can, and enjoy it while it lasts.
