Document library view displays the wrong count next to columns I group by

Hi guys,

I ran into another strange issues after upgrading from WSS 3.0 to SP 2013 Enterprise. My views that worked perfectly fine in WSS 3.0 no longer show the correct count. I group by two fields and the view shows for example a group of one document, when I expand it there are actually 10 documents in there all PDF (even though I know for a fact that there should be also Word files in that same grouping) - I specifically tested for it.

Another scenario is that the grouped column shows one document but it does not allow me to expand the grouping. I have to use the All Documents view to get to the file and discover that the file in question is a Word document.

The issue is that the grouping is not accurate and does not show all documents flagged with the correct metadata - they're all over the place. Again, this worked just fine in WSS 3.0.

The temporary fix is to edit the view and the columns I group by (some of them are calculated fields) and then the documents reappear. Another temp fix is to change the view to group by something else (kind of pointless) - this will allow both PDFs and Word Docs to appear.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

A

It sounds like you have other threads about this migration. I'm sorry I don't have the context but how have you migrated from WSS 3.0 to SP2013? Did you migrate first from WSS to SP2010 and then from SP2010 to SP2013? Did you use a third party tool or some other custom migration method?

Can you describe how you've defined the grouping for files in the view?

Hi Jason,

Thanks for getting back to me. I performed the migration using command line / database attach method. First from WSS 3.0 to SP 2010 Enterprise, then from SP 2010 to SP 2013 Enterprise.

The view / grouping is defined as follows:

1st group: uses a "drop-down" column

2nd group: uses a calculated column (I concatenate three other columns that use drop-downs)

There's nothing too esoteric about the groupings or the columns. I've used these before migration in WSS 3.0 and they worked perfectly fine.

The problem seems to be with the concatenated column. Every time I refresh the formula (edit then close the column in library settings) the view starts working again.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks for taking the time!
