I tried to change the template in a document library. On the settings page "Advanced Settings" the document template points to the new document and if I select Edit Document I get the correct template however in the document library when I select new document the document that is opened is the old version.

Hello, Make Content type in ur site. If you want to make a template with columns out of a list Create Site Columns. Add to Columns to ur Content type then go to ur library settings and go to advance settings. Enable option more contents enabled. Now on ur Document library settings there will apear an new option with content. Add the Content type ur create to the sharepoint librarys contents. Now open that Content go to advance option and create ur own template and upload it in Sharepoint. now its also possible to add more templates to 1 Document Library. Make a list with Site Colums(on mainsite)! Make a content type add Site columns to it. Then add fields from Sharepoint in word 2010 its called Quick parts under insert(no idea how it work in 2007 but gues same way). But there is possible to add the Site Columns to your word document. The word sjabloon is in ur library list you can add it in ur library settings(click library>library settings). Under advance setting select more then 1 content type. Add ur content type to the library. Now ur column disapear on the library setting. Click on the content type>advance settings edit ur template. If you added the Site Comlums on the main site and maked a Content type on the mainsite aswell and in the Content type ur Site columns. Make sure you make another Content type on ur subsites and link it with Parend to the Content type on ur mainsite(if using subsites). Also tip if you uses Child sites.
