Document Library does not show files for Viewers.
Hello, I have opened one sharepoint sit to external access, our goal is to create an extranet with some word and pdf files. The users can login to the site and see the portal however with their current permission level (Read, View) they can't see any files in the document library. If I switch their permission to contributor then the files show up. If I log-in in the domain (not external) then files show up with Read permissions. I couldn't find the reason, Any help will be appreciated. Thank you Kuby

It is possible that the internal users are part of a group that is granting them extra permissions that the external users don't have.Kevin

Hi Kevin thank you for your response. To clarify: If I login with the same user account in the domain, file shows up. If I login with the same username externally file does not show up. Same username. When I change the sharepoint permission to contributor, then files show up externally.

If I wanted to do something like this on purpose, I would turn "require content approval" on and only have drafts of documents in the library. Is it possible that something like that is happening? Your phrasing is also a little ambiguous. Is the 'same user' in the domain both when you access it from within the domain vs externally? I.e. "domain\ID"? Do you have FBA enabled in this environment?--Paul Galvin, Computer Generated Solutions (CGS) Microsoft MVP - SharePoint Blogging @ http://feeds.feedburner.com/PaulGalvinsSharePointSpace Twitter @ http://www.twitter.com/pagalvin

Thank you for your response: Ok, let me rephrase and correct myself: If a user has permission to View, the files in the document library does not show up. The documents can only show up if I add contribute permission. I will look at the FBA, I am note about that part. Kuby

I found it. During the approval you have to mark files as PUBLISHED otherwise files are not being published and stays as draft, so they don't show up for viewers. Oh Yes, I am a Noob. :)
