Document Library and Views
Hi All,
Forgive me if this is a stupid question, I'm new to this, please tell me if this is possible:
In MOSS 2007, can I create a document library with a column lets say "Department" and then create different views of this library based on the View, like a view for HR a view for IT and so on but only have those views dispayed on other pages, like have an
IT page that shows the IT view, without creating a new document library for IT?
Thanks

yes you can, you can configure different views of a list on a different page while adding listview web part
http://office.microsoft.com/en-au/sharepoint-server-help/list-view-web-part-HA010024052.aspx#BM2
Click the Web Part EDIT menu of the Web Part that you want to customize, and then click
Modify Shared Web Part. In the tool pane, click Edit the current view\choose and existing view.

Hi Samuel,
First of all , you need to create two views in document library. One for Department HR and another for department IT. For the first , you can set Filter as "Department is equal to HR" and for second set filter as "Department is equal to IT".
While creating these 2 views , you have already created two different aspx pages.

Both answers marked as such because they are two different approaches but the second post is more true to the question asked.
(Especially this: "While creating these 2 views , you have already created two different aspx pages." - i.e. there is no need to create a web part page and add a List View Web Part to it. That technique would be more likely to use if you wanted to have two
(or more) different views of the same List/Lib on the same web part page.)

Hi yeah I was trying to mark those two as answers. ok but when I create those views is there any way to prevent those views from being selected on the document library (and only allow them to be used from the other IT and HR pages?)
