Document Library Visibility/Permission Question
Hi all, I had two website, one is http://intranet (not extended with FBA) and http://customerportal (exteneded with FBA). User A had read access for the entire http://intranet site, except that he does not have any permssion for document library doclib1 (since this doclib1 had unique permission) at http://intranet/doclib1, so when he view all site content, he did not see doclib1 at all. (Note: Request access for this document library was enable) User A had read access for the entire http://customerportal site, except that he does not have any permssion for document library doclib2 (since this doclib2 had unique permission) at http://customerporatl/doclib2; however, he was able to see doclib2 and when he click on it, he got access denied along with "Request Access" hyperlink. (Note: Request access for this document library was enable) Why are there different behaviors between 2 sites? What are the causes? Personally, I like the http://customerportal behavior so the use can request access for content, how can I make the same behavior in http://cutomerportal for http://intranet site? Thanks

why dont you try inheriting permissions from the http://customerportal to your other library and see if that works

both the libraries has anonymous access turned on ? it seems you are missing some permission level in one of your libraries that is why u see an odd behavior do check the permissions again try giving the same permissions to both libraries and check the behavior it will give u a clue about whts going wrong with your libraries

try these links http://blog.tylerholmes.com/2008/01/enabling-anonymous-access-in-sharepoint.html http://sujant.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!61B9CE11DC9962C3!193.entry?sa=710777765 if u have turned on anonymous access in both of your libraries in both intranet and extranet websites the users should see the list with your unique permissions also working, if u turn it off the unique permissions will still work but users wont be able to see your lists if they dont have any permissions in your list. hope this helps

Talhak, I turned on the anonymous for a document library doclib1 of the intranet (without select any of the for permissions: add, delete, edit & view), then I logged in as user A and I still don't see this document library. If I assign for user A for any of those 4 permssion then he can see the document library, but this will defeat the permission purpose. All I want is to allow user A to see the doclib1 when he view all site content and when he click on it, he will get access denied so from there, he can request access for this document library. For some reason, user A able to see the document library even the anonymous wasn't turned on and he did not have access to the document library doclib2 and the cause of this is the answer for doclib1. Thanks

have you configured anonymous access in your central administration as well ?...why dont u remove permissions from both of your website just turn on anonymous access and see the results ...do one thing give both the sites permission for a user to view the list and turn on anonymous access check the results, secondly remove the view permissions for the users just turn on anonymous acess in both of your sites and see the results..you may have permissions set for users on that particular page also check them also...remove any permissions on the page on both the website just test the permissions with your libraries...
