Document Library Template Showing MetaData Column Values
When I create a document template and associate it to a Content Type the documents that are created initially from that content type show the metadata values of the Document Template rather than showing blank values. e.g. I create a document template and using quick parts I add a custom field called document owner to the header of the document template. The template has to be in the document library in order for the metadata columns to appear as quick part fields. (This is a fundamental flaw in SharePoint imho because we then have to save templates in the same library as the documents that use those templates.) The document template is then associated to a Content Type. In the document library I go to New -> My Content Type and it fires up Word with the template showing. But it shows the value saved in the "document owner" field from the document template as the value on the header. This makes it confusing for users. Is there a way to blank these "template" fields on creation of new documents?

You could write an event receiver for the library that could programmatically blank the fields upon new record creation.
