Document Library Permissions - User not prompted to Edit
Hi All,I am running MOSS 2007 and I am working with one custom list and one document library. I have the Site Owner so by default I have full control to everything in the site. I have added a Document Library web part to the default.aspx page so that the contents of the document library are shown there. This works fine and everyone can see the link and they can click on it (it is one Excel file). When I click on it from the default.aspx page, I receive the following pop-up message asking whether I want it to open in Read Only or Edit mode.http://www.flickr.com/photos/sephiroth0327/4427809108/sizes/o/This is exactly the behavior I want, as I have full control over the site and should be allowed to Edit the sheet. I can easily make changes to the spreadsheet in Edit mode and save them directly back to SharePoint. My users, who are members of the default Members group, do not receive this prompt though. Excel automatically opens the file in Read Only mode.I figured this must be permissions related, so created a custom permission level and assigned the Members group with that permission. No dice though - even if I grant them Full Control, they still do not receive the prompt. Am I missing something???The only other thing I can think of is that I am running IE8 while they are all running IE7. Could that be the issue? One last note - I have found a few seemingly related articles online but none of them seem to apply to my situation. Thanks!

Did some more searching and came across the following articlehttp://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sharepointadmin/thread/d553a3c9-2995-4a93-b1c7-79669149f8c6/I haven't had time to test yet, but this appears to explain my exact issue (I was searching the wrong forum earlier, so I didn't see this). We are running Office 2003 but I do have some Office 2007 products installed (the other users do not have any Office 2007 products). I will research this more heavily but I think we can go ahead and close this topic. This gives me a good starting point.
