Do we need to perform Index Rebuild/Reorg for Share point databases if we have MOSS 2007 SP2
Hi, We installed SP2 for MOSS 2007 recently. Prior to applying MOSS 2007 SP2, we used to do Index Rebuild/Reorganize on Share point databases. But still Do we need to perform Index Rebuild/Reorg after installing MOSS 2007 SP2? Since, I read that MOSS 2007 SP2 automatically does this Index rebuild/reorganize.. and also do we need to perform updatestatistics? Please advice

Hi, After installing any Hotfix or Service Packs you just need to run SharePoint Products and Technologies Wizard which will upgrade all binaries. Its not required to Rebuild or reorg Index. It will automatically crawl the content as per your schedule. hth.Warm Regards, Pratik Vyas | SharePoint Consultant | http://sharepointpratik.blogspot.com/

I mean does it required to continue to perform Index defragmentation as a maintenance job in SQL Server instance even after having MOSS 2007 SP2? Thanks

As far as i know you should stay off the databases of sharepoint 2007. They are self updating stats etc, the common issue with fragmentation in my experience was more related to the autogrowth of the data files which is by default one mb. I've never setup any maintance plans onto sharepoint databases, except for backups of course. Regards

Hi, As a DBA, I would certainly include the "Database Integrity", "Reorganize Index", "Update Statistics" as part of the SQL maintenance plan and of course the database backups.
