Do I need Operations Manager or something else - Please help!
Hi there, I have posted here in this forum as the Microsoft site does not give me the answers I need. I am after a product that will be able to: -Consolidate all Server Event logs making it easier to monitor them -Maybe even send alerts if there is a high priority event -Also something that can monitor the health of the desktops / laptops on the network -Something that has WSUS built in so that it pushes out Microsoft updates to servers and desktops Shoudl I get Operations Manager or Configuration Manager or something else? My organisation has more than 500 computers so Essentials will not work for us. Thanks you all for your time and have a great day!

Perhaps both. Config manager for updates / patches / inventory. OM for monitoring.Regards, Blake Email: mengotto<at>hotmail.com Blog: http://discussitnow.wordpress.com/

Hi Could you clarify - "Consolidate all Server Event logs making it easier to monitor them" .. SCOM isn't designed to collect and store all server event logs (system, security, application etc) for 500 servers. It just won't cope. You could leverage ACS to help with the security log but even that won't store data for a long time that is required for compliance. My thoughts are that if you are looking for a log management tool then that isn't SCOM. SCOM is performance and availability management. For System Center 2012, you can't buy SCOM or SCCM - you purchase the System Center 2012 suite and can use all of the products in the suite.
