Distribution Point not working
Setting up a new server - under 'Site Systems' created a few distribution shares, but am not able to copy programs to them. The default \\servername share didn't work (the share was not physically created on the server?), so I manually created a share, gave everyone full permissions then created a distribution point for it. WhenI try to update the DP, the distmgr.log shows the error 'no connection account is available' and 'TreeRecurser failed at FindFirstFile --- Win32 error = 5 (access denied). It looks like the Distribution Manager is trying to copy over the entire folder structiure from the source server where the package executables reside. Is there any way to get it to only copy over the folder I need, because it looks like it can't read one of the other folders (which I don't need anyway). Also, is there any other account that needs to be created on the SMS server , the onlty account I seem to have is the SMS computer account? I gave this account full access to the server share which holds the source files. Thanks

Is this on Server 2008?

Regardless if the DP share is Server 2008 ... The computeraccount of the sccm server needs read permission on the location where the packages sources are stored. The shares itself are not created automagically- this has to be done manually (the sccm server has to be local admin on the DP share). Also double check the permissions for the computeraccount (NTFS AND share permissions!). Distmgr only copies the directory and all directories that you specified in the package source.

I am having this same problem. I just setup a "Server Share Distribution Point". The wizard walked me through the process with no error. Then I went to the Deployment Packages to copy an existing package to the new distribution point. The wizard returned the following, Success: Copy Packages Source Distribution Point: Destination Distribution Point: servername\sharename Successfully copied software updates deployment packages: PackageName I checked the share folder of the new distribution point. No data have been copy over. I checked the distmgr.log. It says, "no connection account is available~". What am I missing? I have the computer account of the SCCM server in the admin local group of the w2k8 server which provides the the DP share. Am I suppose to get some files and folders copied to the new share if it works properly?

Yes, you should. Is the computer account directly a member of the local admins group or is it a member via a domain global group? Have you checked the health of the DP under System Status?Jason | http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/jsandys | http://blogs.catapultsystems.com/jsandys/default.aspx | Twitter @JasonSandys

The SCCM server computer account was directly added to the local admin group of the share server. I think my problem was that I added it after I have created the DP at the management console. After I deleted the none-working DP and reacreate a new one with the computer account already in the admin group, it works. Thanks for your help and support.
