Distributing software update packages to remote DP after content prestaging on it - how fast is this process supposed to be?

So I ran the extractcontent.exe on my .pkgx file on my remote DP, then I went to my Site Server and distributed the packages to the remote DP.

Now, it is my understanding that when I run the extractcontent.exe tool to extract the content from the .pkgx file to the Content Library on my remote DP, the actual package distribution from the Site Server to the DP does NOT take place over the wire

However, when I open up my pkgxfermgr.log file the transfer seems VERY slow which tells me that something may be transferring over the WAN. If the packages are already on the remote DP and have been stored in its Content Library, shouldn't the actual package distribution process go pretty quickly since all it needs to do is just write this info to the site database?

I mean how can I really know if it is NOT getting sent over the WAN?

I feel like this is blind faith or something.

I have asked this before and NO one has answered me, so here I go again.

How can I know that my Site Server has received the status message from the remote DP that the prestaged content has been successfully extracted to its Content Library? Is there a log somewhere that records this?

Thanks everyone
