Environment: 2 node web front-end load balanced (web server and search queries) 1 node application server (Office search service and indexing) 3 node database cluster server Running Sharepoint 2007 Portal server v12.0.0.6565 Issue: Numerous Office document libraries and sharepoint lists have missing entries with no visable pattern or apparent reason. The document libraries that have missing documents in their views still contain the documents but they are only viewable using the explorer view. There are no errors in the Application, System, or Verbose ULS logs. Could someone provide some direction or insight into this issue. Damian J. Hi Damian, You can Copy or Move these list items to a new list via Manage Content and Structure, then check whether all items can be displayed. ThanksDaniel Yang TechNet Community Support

Hi Damian, What browser are you using? Have your users created any custom views that they are using? Can you isolate the probelm to just one node of your WFE (meaning that if you direct traffic to just one node or the other, do you see the issue or see any pattern with the issue as opposed to the randomness you are currently seeing)? Gregg MSFT This is not isolated to any site, document library, or site collection. This problem occurs in libraries and lists and accross different site collection databases. I have saved the document library as a template and copied the documents over to it > Issue still present with the exact same documents. How ever if I create a new document library and copy data into it the view is ok. This however removes all metadata from the files and folders and marks me as the last user to modify the document.Damian J. Is it possible that these libraries have require check out enabled and the "missing" documents have not yet been checked in? Do they show up if you go into the Library settings and select Manage Checked out files?Imagine what we could be...if we could just imagine. | Daniel A. Versioning is not enabled on the document libraries or Lists that have been effected. There are no documents under the managed checked out files.Damian J. Hi Damian, Because of the inconsistent nature of the issue, the forums is probably not the best place to troubleshoot the problem. Unless any other user has something to suggest, the best place to troubleshoot the issue would be with a Support Service Request with Microsoft. That may we can take a look at logs and your environment and get a better idea of what might be going on. Gregg MSFT

Damian, Were you ever able to find out a solution to your issue? We are having a similar problem where items have disappeared from several lists, etc... In one list, 1200 items disappeared, but their attachments still exist. We have looked everywhere and even opened a ticket with Microsoft. They have not been able to help us. Thanks

Not a solution but with the assistance of MS, I located the cause of my problem. Turns out that there is some form of data corruption in the site collection tables that has caused data to drop from the alluserdata table. Our problem pre-dates my administrative tenure of the portal so I was unable to ascertain when it initially occurred and who may have caused it. We are operating under the assumption that a previous administrator made direct edits to the site collection databases to facilitate a domain name change that took place in the organization. Best way to identify that you have the exact issue that I have is to run this SQL query against the site collection that has the missing list items: SELECT d.Id as DocGUID , d.DoclibRowId as Row , d.DirName , d.LeafName as Filename , d.TimeLastModified FROM AllUserData AS aud RIGHT OUTER JOIN Docs AS d ON aud.tp_LeafName = d.LeafName AND aud.tp_DirName = d.DirName AND aud.tp_ListId = d.ListId AND aud.tp_SiteId = d.SiteId WHERE ( aud.tp_LeafName is null or aud.tp_DirName is null ) and d.DoclibRowId is not null If it returns any results then you may have some db corruption, in which case you will have to do what I have done, Restore the earliest database backup to a test system and execute the TSQL query against it. If you recieve results then you have a lot of work ahead of you restoring documents and list items. Im working on a blog that describes the living nightmare that is restoring list items and documents without a item recovery backup solution. Stay tune. How ever if you recieved no results then you dont have my problem and you may want to keep working with MS.Damian J.
