Discussion board - allowing post from users with anonymous
I've got a MOSS publishing site with anonymous access turned on. it's not internet facing, but does cross several domains none of which i have control over.I've not been asked to include a discussion board for the site. Is there a way to allow the discussion board to accept post from anonymous users?I've created a new column (My name) which forces at poster to enter a name (all post will be approved before they go into the public view, so they can't enter a silly name)Does anyone know if this is posible, it becomming quite important.thanks

Hi,it is possible!1. Allow anonymous for the Web Application in Central Admin2. Allow anonymous for the discussion list3. On advanced settings of the discussion list > configure so users only can add/write to own posts.Cheers,Daniel Bugday Web: http://www.sharepointforum.com/ Blog: http://www.sharepointforum.com/en-US/Blog/

I've deleted the duplicate of this posted to this forum (no replies) and also the exact same post posted to Design/Customization (no replies) because you should only post any one question once to only one forum!! Please avoid posting duplicates in future. If nothing else it will avoid me deleting the wrong copy.

Hi DanielI've setup anonymous access in Central Admin (although it still has Sign In written in the top right corner, i assume that is ok?)I'm a litttle unsure how to allow anonymous for the discussion list. In the Site Collection in site permissions -> settings -> Anonymous Access i've tried both Entire site and Lists and libraries, neither allow you to post on the discussion board. In the Discussion board advanced settings the Read and Edit access has been set to All Items.I followed this guidehttp://www.yuvalararat.com/sharepoint-server-2007-anonymous-access-howtoto setting up anonymous access.I'm should have said in my orginal post that i'm using MOSS 2007, does it make a difference?Hope you can helpthanks

When you configure SharePoint with anonymous login, then you will see the Sign in function in SharePoint. This is the steps you need to follow:1. Enable Anonymous in Central Admin2. Enable Anonymous in discussion list> Settings > Permissions> Settings > Anonymous Access3. Enable read and write only for "their own items" permission on the listSettings > Advanced SettingsWorks for me :)Cheers,Daniel Bugday Web: http://www.sharepointforum.com/ Blog: http://www.sharepointforum.com/en-US/Blog/

Might be worth pointing out, that to enable anonymous access for a discussion board you need to break inheritance from the top site.

Hi Daniel,I followed your steps and configured a discussion board for anonymous access however I am at a loss as to what to do to see the effect. In other words, I confirmed my configuration on the DB however when I go to make either a post or a reply, my uid is still used in the post. Is there supposed to be a way to either post as yourself or anonymously? Do I have to log out to post anonymously?Thank you for your thoughts.Tim

Hello Tim,you need to log out and post as anonymous(don't log on).Cheers, Daniel Bugday Web: SharePoint Forum Blog: Daniel Bugday's SharePoint Blog

I tried that but for some reason my identity keeps switching back to my uid. If I logout and close the browser (because it tells me to) and then go back into the discussion board, I can see that I am in as anonymous. The Sign-In link is in the top right corner. If I go to a post and attempt to reply, it switches back to my uid.Do I have to do an iisreset or anything? Thanks,Tim

You shouldn't need to do an IISReset but if you are able to do it then try that.Cheers, Daniel Bugday Web: SharePoint Forum Blog: Daniel Bugday's SharePoint Blog

Hi,Anyone got any ideas on how to setup a discussion board so it either does not record the name of the user that posted a discussion / reply or allows the user to chose whether or not they leave their details? I have users of a MOSS site that do not want to have to log in to a special anonymous account, they want to use their logins and leave posts without their details attached. Is it possible, I have looked into it and can't see anything you can set? Can anyone suggest a 3rd party web part that could do the job if Out of the box can't?Much appreciated,Matt Steels
