If you are trying to use the BDC to interact with FIM then I think you're confusing a SharePoint technology with FIM. I am not aware of any relationship whatsoever with the BDC and FIM I'm afraid. When you say the "FIM client", what exactly are you referring to, and where did you expect the imported data to appear? If you wish to import data into the FIM Portal then there are 2 main ways that you should consider using first ... the FIM Sync Server is one, and PowerShell is another. However, without knowing what you are really trying to achieve, it's hard to advise. Can you please try to describe that? The User profile Application in Sharepoint 2010 are using the Forefront Identity Manager (FIM) to import users from AD... It's also possible to create a External content type that point to a external data source (SQL) and then create a new connection in the User profile application to use the business data connectivity... (Uses the Forefront Identity Manager) The FIM Client is located at C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office Servers\14.0\Synchronization Service\UIShell\miisclient.exe I did expect the data defined in the external data source to appear in the user property as I've mapped the property to the data import... I'm trying to do the following: http://www.microsoft.com/resources/msdn/en-us/office/media/video/sharepointestc.html?uuid=ede7d855-035c-47a9-9492-1c2a23614a4a&from=mscomsharepoint

I see - you're talking about what FIM folk know as the FIM Sync Service (or ILM and MIIS before it), which uses a console with the same executable name you identify above ... I haven't actually seen what gets deployed in a standard FIM deployment, but I do know that SharePoint 2010 includes a preconfigured version of this service to do what you describe. I understand it is normally configured via some sort of installer wizard ... but after that is not (as I understand) further configurable. However I don't have first hand experience with this ... although I have used ILM previously to synchronize AD to MOSS 2007 User Profiles (with extended schema like you have done). I think you will find that you will have more luck taking this issue up in the MOSS 2010 forum, since this is a case of a technology cross over between platforms ... you should probably think of the componentry you describe above as being a MOSS component rather than FIM. One of the reasons for this is that a typical FIM implementation is extensible to any number of data connections (management agents), but in the case above it is totally non-extensible (apart from via some sort of MOSS-specific interface).Bob Bradley (FIMBob @ http://thefimteam.com/) ... now using Event Broker 3.0 @ http://www.unifysolutions.net/ourSolutions.cfm?solution=event for just-in-time delivery of FIM 2010 policy via the sync engine

Thanks for the video url - I had heard about this but never seen it ... turns out that I wasn't far off the mark at all with the wizard understanding I had. The idea is (I think) that it should "just work" and you shouldn't have to "lift the cover" on the sync service itself. Interesting stuff - this sort of interface is consistent with other MOSS config pages, but totally foreign to anyone who is used to working with FIM.Bob Bradley (FIMBob @ http://thefimteam.com/) ... now using Event Broker 3.0 @ http://www.unifysolutions.net/ourSolutions.cfm?solution=event for just-in-time delivery of FIM 2010 policy via the sync engine

Created a BDC Dataimport in SharePoint 2010 to fecth hiredate and birthdate from a external sql server... The job runs with success... but nothing gets imported to the custom property that I've created - both the source and target are datetime types... In the FIM client I just see: Disconnector - 1 can anyone point me in the right direction of why nothings gets imported?
