Discarding Check Outs
I have a scenario where several users claim they checked out a file from a SharePoint document library (with force check out enabled,) then were unable to check in their changes due to another individual having the file checked out. I have tried to reproduce this problem without any success and i have tediously gone through the audit log for the specific document in question. While i am able to see the View events as well as the Check Out, Update and Check In events in the audit log, the one event i cannot seem to find is something related to a user discarding another users checkout (which is what i suspect happened here.) Is there a way i can find out if a user discarded a check out, if so, how? Many Thanks!

Hi PeteMD, When a user check out a document and edit in Microsoft Word, users who are administrators of the site can discard the check out and redo check out the document. In this situation, the first user cannot check in the document he has edited. Because there are no records about that the administrator has discarded a check out, you cannot find it in this regard. I suggest not discarding other’s check out document without prompting. If should, send a message first. Best Regards, Qiao Wei
