Disable adding/deleting rows in a list's datasheet view but keep editing intact
We often get requests to remove the users' ability to add/remove items from our sharepoint lists, while still allowing them to edit existing items. We've traditionally accomplished this by adding some custom javascript to hide the New/Delete buttons in the various list forms. Not pretty, but it works. However, our latest request also asks that we do this even if the user clicks "Edit in Datasheet". They want to keep the datasheet view itself, and allow individual rows to be editable, but to disable adding/deleting new rows. Is this possible?

I would create a custom permission level that allows editing, but prevents Add & Delete. Assign this permsision level to the users and/or groups.Steve Clark, MCTS | Twin-Soft.com & Easy Bins Dumpster Rentals of Northern VA. (Specializing in driveway-sized roll-off dumpsters.) Thanks for the response! I don't have much experience on the permissions side of things... is this something that can be done on a per-list basis? Not all lists need to be locked down this way.

Permissions are everything in SharePoint. Anytime you design anything, it is in your best interest to think about the permissions first, and functionality second. With that, permissions can be applied at both the Library and Individual item level.Steve Clark, MCTS | Twin-Soft.com & Easy Bins Dumpster Rentals of Northern VA. My guess is that you've made it too restrictive. So, start by just trying to get data to show in a view for the group defined, then work your way up to the [Me] filter. Baby steps... which will help you troubleshoot along the way.Steve Clark, MCTS | Twin-Soft.com Easy Bins Dumpster Rentals of Northern VA. (Specializing in driveway-sized roll-off dumpsters.) I have a list that displays a default view in datasheet. The list is filtered on [Me] so the current user only sees their existing list items. When I try to implement any type of security on a user group other than Contribute or Full Control, any users assigned to that group no longer see their records in the list. The list displays empty and is NOT EDITABLE either. Any ideas?
