Disable SharePoint WebDav feature and Explorer View
Hi All, I need to disable SharePoint WebDav feature and Explorer View. Is this possible out of the box or I need some customizations to achieve my requirement? Any help in this regard will be greatly appreciated...

Hi Muhammad Tariq Khan, SharePoint provides its own WebDAV implementation using the Stsfilt.dll ISAPI filter that is installed with both Windows SharePoint Services and SharePoint Portal Server. Enabling or disabling the WebDAV extension in IIS 6.0 has no effect on SharePoint functionality. By default, the IIS WebDAV extension is disabled. By blocking specific DAV verbs at the network level (through a firewall) or by installing URLScan, you will break the SharePoint DAV implementation. Make sure that the damage this will cause is worth whatever benefit you hope to gain. For more information about WebDAV and SharePoint, please refer to the following articles: Whitepaper - Understanding and Troubleshooting the SharePoint Explorer View http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=c523ac7a-5724-48be-b973-641e805588f4&displaylang=en http://blog.arcanum247.net/post/2009/06/09/SharePoint-and-WebDAV.aspx Hope this helps. Dear Rock Wang, First of all thanks for the reply. Can you help me how i can break SharePoint Dev implementation using URLScan or through network firewall ? Is there any instruction manual or walkthrough steps ? FYI: My requirement is to block UNC access (e.g. \\portal\Project Docs ) to the SharePoint environment and Explorer View. Regards..

I would like to do this too, its obvious Microsoft did not test this feature because you can delete the "Forms" folder (which you cannot do in Sharepoint Designer). This has caused a serious outage in our implementation. Any suggestions would be wonderfull. Thanks
