Dicovery problems
Hi, We are running SCE 2007 and we can't discover new servers or workstations. When we try to discover a new server by using "Computer and Device Management Wizard" the progress starts and seems to run forever... The same thing happens for both methods: "Automatic computer discovery" or "Advanced discovery" - runs forever and I have to interrupt it. We haven't applied the SP1 yet, could this solve the problem? Please advice. Best regards,

I strongly suggest you apply SP1, which brings with it several bug fixes and substantial improvement in server and console performance. Re-run discovery after SP1 installation, and let us know if problems persist.I wrote an article on SP1 additions for TechNet Mag a few months ago. Check out what you're missing.http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/cc462800.aspx

When I try to install SP1, it comes back and tells me that there are no upgradeable products. Version shows 6.0.1.1885. Is this SP1?

Hi Morty, My understanding is that Discovery Wizard in SCE 2007 always hang after you installing it. Could you post some more information such as: 1. Did you install SCE 2007 in a domain environment? If yes, what is the domain name and domain NETBIOS name? 2. Did you use a built-in SQL Express or another SQL instance, or a remote SQL database? 3. Did you finished running the Feature Configuration Wizard? 4. Did you choose the Domain Policy? Please also open the Event Viewer and check if any error message was logged. If there is an Event ID 11553 logged in the Operations Manager log, open the KB article below and follow the steps to resolve this issue. The Discovery Wizard may stop responding during the discovery process in Microsoft System Center Operations Manager 2007 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/941409/en-us If there is an Event ID 28005 logged in the Microsoft SQL Server error log, refer to the following KB article: The discovery process does not find computers that are present in your domain in Operations Manager 2007http://support.microsoft.com/kb/938994/en-us If the above are not your scenario, please post back and let me know. Thanks.
