Determine whether a SharePoint solution is in use
Hi, This is probably a silly question but I'll ask it anyway. Is there a way to determine whether a deployed SharePoint solution is actually "in use"? We have had a SharePoint 2007 Intranet for a long time now and over the years many admins have come and gone. There are at least 100 solutions deployed - most of them with meaningless names. I would like to clean up the mess if I can. Is there a way to determine what a solution actually does and whether it is in use? Thanks in advance. Cheers, David

>> We have had a SharePoint 2007 Intranet > which Sharepoint version you are using ? MOSS 2007 by the look of it. (Although I agree we can't exclude WSS 3.0 as that too is SharePoint 2007) Moderator SP 2010 "FAQ" (mainly useful links): http://wssv4faq.mindsharp.com/default.aspx WSS3/MOSS FAQ (FAQ and Links) http://wssv3faq.mindsharp.com/default.aspx Both also have links to extensive book lists and to (free) on-line chapters

SharePoint 2007 (I mentioned that in the question). I'm equally interested how to do this in SharePoint 2007 or 2010. Not bothered about WSS 3.0 or Foundation. Cheers, David

Hi, Per my knowledge, you can enumerate all the features which are enabled in your SharePoint farm. To do this, you need to write codes. Here is an article for your reference: http://blog.falchionconsulting.com/index.php/2007/08/enumerate-features/ Thanks, Rock Wang Forum Support Please remember to mark the replies as answers if they help and unmark them if they provide no help. HI, This requires usage analysis. Go to IIS logs and check what your users are accessing. You need to analyze the solutions and features deployed as well to check if they are really required or what functionality they provide. I hope this will help you out. Thanks, Rahul Rashu

Hi, Thanks for the replies - but I don't really think any of them answer my question. It probably can't be done. As I said originally, I have a SharePoint farm with 100+ solutions installed. These solutions are meaningless to me as they are just a long list of words. It is obvious what some of them are (as they are "famous" solutions and I can tell from the name what it is), but a lot of them are a mystery. I would like to know what they are, what features they expose, how to tell if they are in use anywhere etc... I suspect it can't be done. This must be a fairly common problem as farms "age" - these things build up and eventually it becomes a bit of a mystery what it's all for and whether it is used. Cheers, David
