I am running OSD where I am using USMT to capture state, install windows 7 then restore state with USMT. There are several applications that need to be placed back on the systems post OSD. So im looking for and documentation for auto detecting the apps then automatically replacing them in the TS after win7 is installed.

Links, documentation, tips all would be greatly appreciated.

Are you deploying these apps to user's and their primary devices? If so, you could use pre-deploy to user's primary device when deploying the apps to user collection.

MDT includes package/application mapping that detects currently installed software, maps the software to packages/applications in ConfigMgr, and adds them back during the TS.

Most of these are kiosk so no primary user........

Going through the blog I see there MDT was installed with the DB on SQL. Looks like what im working on wasn't.

Can MDT use the internal windows DB? If so on 2008R2 svr what would be the best method to manipulate it? My 2012 SQL doesn't see it so far......

That's probably fodder for a separate thread. I've never tried installing it anywhere except in a full SQL Server instance. My guess is that is probably can, but may not be supported or enable all features -- the WID limits/prevents certain things like remote connections which would kill the database centric features of MDT for sure.
