Hi Seyha, By default, the Report templates in Business Intelligence Development Studio (BIDS) 2005 is stored in <drive>:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\Common7\IDE\PrivateAssemblies\ProjectItems\ReportProject For BIDS 2008 is stored in <drive>:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Common7\IDE\PrivateAssemblies\ProjectItems\ReportProject However, if you are using 64-bit operating system, there are 2 Program Files folder and one of them is of x86. So, for BIDS 2005, you may save the template report in <drive>:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\Common7\IDE\PrivateAssemblies\ProjectItems\ReportProject For BIDS 2008 is <drive>:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Common7\IDE\PrivateAssemblies\ProjectItems\ReportProject Please also check if the ReportProject folder already exists and includes the Report.rdl file which is default report template in BIDS. Dear Tony Chain, I am using Visual Studio 2008 and SQL Server 2008 SP1 in Window 7 Ultimate 32 bit. I saved my template to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Common7\IDE\PrivateAssemblies\ProjectItems\ReportProject , but it still not showed my template in Add New Item. Moreover I renamed default report template Report.rdl to other name, but it still show properly in Add New Item dialog. Thus, I did not understand what the problem is because I follow all the step in instruction. Thanks for your reply. Seyha

Hi Seyha, Since the template report is placed in the correct folder but not show up in the Add New Item dialog, could you please send the template report you created to the E-mail address below? Then I will test in my environment. E-mail: sqltnsp AT microsoft.com (Please replace the AT with @, and remove additional spaces) Thanks, Tony Chain Please remember to mark the replies as answers if they help and unmark them if they provide no help

Hi Seyha, I have received the report Master.rdl. Based on my testing, this report is in RDL2005 schema which might be created by Business Intelligence Development Studio (BIDS) 2005. However, if I place the file in the correct folder, it still can be used in BIDS 2008 as a template and will be upgraded to RDL2008 automatically. I have uploaded a Master2008.rdl file which is upgraded to RDL2008 schema based the Master.rdl. It is available on http://cid-1e189c82ae92dfd8.office.live.com/self.aspx/.Public/Reporting%20Services/20101105/Master%202008.rdl Please download it and try to use it as a report template in BIDS 2008. Thanks, Tony Chain Please remember to mark the replies as answers if they help and unmark them if they provide no help

Dear Tony Chain, I downloaded your rdl file then applied to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Common7\IDE\PrivateAssemblies\ProjectItems\ReportProject . However, it still not show up your Master2008.rdl in Add New Item dialog. Do you any command to excute after applying template report? Can it be the problem of window 7 or Visual Studio 2008? Do you have other method to solve this issue. Thanks, Seyhaseyha
