Deploying Windows Updates to an Build and Capture task
hi, have you tried replicating the following guide ? Build and Capture Windows 7 sample task sequence adding windows updates by specifying the SLP in addition, have you created a Deployment Management Task for Windows updates for Windows 7 pointing to the same Build and Capture collection ? otherwise how will the computer know which updates to get ? cheers niall My step by step SCCM Guides I'm on Twitter > ncbrady

One final question, how are your boundaries configured? If you are using AD sites, you will most likely have issues with the Install Updates task also.Jason | http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/jsandys | Twitter @JasonSandys

Hi, Looking at the article referenced above, is it because I have not used the SMSMP parameter? Is this required if I use the SMSSLP??

Not necessarily because the client should locate that via the SLP, but I still always add it anyway. What about my question?Jason | http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/jsandys | Twitter @JasonSandys

Hi, Mixed-mode... I have got around this thanks to someone showing me the ZTIWindowsUpdate.wsf script which is working beautifully..

Hi, I am attempting to use the SCCM build and capture task to build a Windows 7 image, apply windows updates and then suck it back up again... My AD is extended. Basically it is not doing the Windows Update part... now I believe from my reading that this is because when the build and capture task installs the SCCM client, it is not joined to the domain, and thus cannot contact the SCCM server to get the info about the site and its servers and the task and updates etc... On a machine on a workgroup I manually installed the client and verified this was the case... I then created a Server Locator Point role on the server and reinstalled the client using the option SMSSLP=<fqdn of slp server>... once I did this, and ran the automatic site code discovery on the client it said it was succesful, but there were only three options on the actions tab (User policy, machine policy and another which I cannot remember!)... Is there something else I should be doing to get this working? As a SCCM noob... why is it that this piece does not work but everything else in the task sequence does (I take it everything else is simply downloaded locally to the machine before hand?)

Does Windows Update work when a machine is fully deployed?

I have another question... Mixed-mode or Native?

Hi, I would start by adding the SMSSLP=<fqdn of slp server> to the "Setup Windows and Configuration Manager" step in the task sequence under "Installation Parameters" so that the client is installed with the SLP. That should hopefully solve it. Also check that the client computer which you runt he TS actually is a member of a collection with the Software Updates assigned, I assume that you have setup everything else right. For the collection you added in a workgroup could it be that it is not approved in the console as the client computer name cannot be resolved by the SCCM Site server..
