Deployed SSRS 2008 R2 cannot access SQL Azure: rsServerConfigurationError, rsErrorOpeningConnection
I have a set of reports that I was previously using with my data hosted on SQL Server 2008 R2 Express. I have recently moved my data to SQL Azure and have changed the data sources in my reports to point to my Azure DB. Within Business Intelligence Development Studio (BIDS) I have no problem pulling reports from my Azure DB; however, once I deploy the reports and try running them on my ASP.Net site or directly from mydomain/Reports I get the following error: An error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted) Cannot create a connection to data source 'RightsManagement'. (rsErrorOpeningConnection) The report server has encountered a configuration error. (rsServerConfigurationError) I have also tried signing up for the Azure Reporting Services CTP2 last week but have not heard anything back. Please help. Thanks. I would also be very appreciative if someone could help get me access to the CTP2 for Azure Reporting.

(rsServerConfigurationError) With regards to the error above, could you verify that the account under which the SQL Server Reporting Services service is running has network access. Typically, if the service is set to run as "Local Service" then it will not be able to fetch data from SQL Azure - which could cause the error you're seeing.

The Service Account is indeed set as "Local Service", while the execution account is not set. Should the Service Account be changed to "Network Service" in the Reporting Services Configuration Manager? Do I also need to add/change the Execution Account? Thanks for your help so far.

In my network environment the following works: Set the Service Account to a valid user or service account (domain\user) - one that has access to the Internet from the RS machine. Ensure that the RS machine and user account combination can access the Internet in your network configuration. Ensure that the Execution Account is not set. Hope this helps, Rein

How can I verify the account combination's internet access? This machine is in a dedicated hosted environment. When I use remote desktop to administer the machine, the user account used has no trouble accessing the internet via IE. Any other ideas of what I can check or try doing other then praying the CTP invites go out in the next few days ;)?
