Hi, i am new to Config Manager so hope you can help. I deleted a Device Collection (All Systems without Agent) and need to redicover and recreate the Collection again. i have a query from the net but doesnt look to work:

select SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceID,SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceType,SMS_R_SYSTEM.Name,SMS_R_SYSTEM.SMSUniqueIdentifier,SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceDomainORWorkgroup,SMS_R_SYSTEM.Client from sms_r_system where Client = 0

How do i rediscover the machines are create the appropiate quety (if the above is not correct).

Can you confirm that you have systems with Client = No in the All Systems collection?

I use this one successfully. Make sure that 'All Systems' is picked as the limiting collection

select SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceID,SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceType,SMS_R_SYSTEM.Name,SMS_R_SYSTEM.SMSUniqueIdentifier,SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceDomainORWorkgroup,SMS_R_SYSTEM.Client from SMS_R_System where SMS_R_System.ResourceId not in (select SMS_R_System.ResourceId from  SMS_R_System where SMS_R_System.Client = 1)

Also - did you delete all the devices in the collection?

It depends on if this was the mechanism that found the devices in the first place. Check how AD System Discovery is set up and if it is pointing to a place in AD where the devices reside. If so you should see them filter back in to ConfigMgr.

Check the Adsysdis.log for the system discovery you just ran and see what if found.

Also if you run again you can check the Microsoft Configuration Manager\inboxes\auth\ddm.box and watch DDR records being generated and disappear as they are processed and check the Adsysdis.log in real time.

Hi, I basically copied the "with agent" group and changed the value to 0, that should work right Here it is:

select SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceID,SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceType,SMS_R_SYSTEM.Name,SMS_R_SYSTEM.SMSUniqueIdentifier,SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceDomainORWorkgroup,SMS_R_SYSTEM.Client from sms_r_system where Client = 0

i have also created a Collection and used your query info, should that not be 0, rather than 1?

All Systems collection, I cant view it its =no, or not.

I have rerun the discovery method earlier also and still no machines back in SCCM, Im approx 300 short from the accidental deletion of the Device Collection

Thanks

Hi,

Have you checked Adsysdis.log as Paul said?(Path:C:\Program Files\Microsoft Configuration Manager\Logs)

No as the query is 'not in'. Your query should be fine but the main issue is your AD Discovery. Please check the Adsysdis.log  file and post here if necessary.

Hi Paul, just checking if you have a chance to look at that file, or if you could access it?Cheers

You are running System Discovery every 5 minutes. This is extremely aggressive and could potentially over load the ConfigMgr server. I do see items being discovered and processed for example:

08:10

INFO: AD Discovery under container LDAP://OU=LOCATIONS,DC=LC-UK,DC=ORG found 1 objects

08:15

INFO: AD Discovery under container LDAP://OU=LOCATIONS,DC=LC-UK,DC=ORG found 1 objects

08:20

INFO: AD Discovery under container LDAP://OU=LOCATIONS,DC=LC-UK,DC=ORG found 3 objects

and so on.

I would be inclined to check the inbox to ensure that DDR records aren't stacking back and not being processed in time for the next discovery. Go to the Program Files\Microsoft Configuration Manager\inboxes\auth\ddm.box folder and check for DDR records?  Are there any there?

Are you running the action with a named account? If so change to run as the site server and try again

Also untick all the boxes in the Options tab of AD System Discovery. The 'Only discover computers..' ones. It's possible these contradict policies that are set in your AD.

Hi Paul, Still no increase although i amdended the above!  Getting very confusing now. I thought it would be a simple task of finding the machines and moving back in. Kaspersky Security Centre uses an agent, same as SCCM. and if removed, you just rescan AD and within minutes the machines are back in.

I have re-attached the updated, if you dont mind taking a look. This is getting so frustrating! Thanks for your assistance.

Yes, I know this is an old post, but Im trying to clean them up. Did you solve this problem, if so what was the solution?

Since no one has answer this post, I recommend opening  a support case with Microsoft Customer Support Services (CSS) as they can work with you to solve this problem.
