Defragmentation alerts for Domain Controllers recieved through SCOM
Hello, As I am new to this forum, I have posted my question here since I was not sure where to post it exactly. In our environment we have 5 Domain Controllers (Win Server 2003). After installing relevant MP in SCOM last week, we received "Logical Disk Fragmentation" alerts for these DCs with various percentage. I have googled and also read "Override Logical Disk Fragmentation Level on Domain Controllers" topic in this forum, but my question is 1) Is it recommended/feasible to Enable the "Recovery" feature of SCOM for defragmenting Domain Controller's drives? 2) If Enabled, then are there any issues/impact/prerequisties that DC may have (apart from slowness). Because I dont think taking DC offline and then defragmenting will be right choice though not all at a time. 3) If alarm is disabled, then will it be right to do that. Appreicate your help. Thanks, Mihir P.

Hi 1) Basically it is not a bad thing but it depends, if you enable this task and all your servers are VM's then all will run this defragmentation at once and put load on your disk subsystem. I would not recommend to enable this Task because you can not control what happends when. 2) Well this part goes into the same direction as question 1). Maybe read this here http://thoughtsonopsmgr.blogspot.ch/2011/06/logical-disk-fragmentation-level.html 3) Of course you can override (not disable) the rule if you don't care about this subject, no problem.
