Define Operator Views Centrally
Hello together, I would like to define Views for my Operator Roles centrally so all Operator start with the same view of their Alert Views etc. I tested it but for my test accounts the view is different than for the SCOM Admin - basically collums haven't been ticked. Is this possible to create an tempalte there or not? Regards, M.

When you create a view you have to go under the Display tab and chose what collums will be visible by default before you save it. Otherwise every operator needs to personalize the view.mats.w, www.opsmode.com

Hello Mats, I did as you said but unfortunately I don't get the same view I pre-defined while working with any of my Operator accounts!? Regards, M.

Hi If you create the view then you can set the defaults and all operators should see this when they come to see the view. However, for views from sealed management packs, each operator sees the "default view" and needs to personalise it themselves. It is a pain as I find repeat count very useful but need to add it for every view (as does each operator). Cheers GrahamView OpsMgr tips and tricks at http://systemcentersolutions.wordpress.com/

Hello Graham, thank you for your answer! As I am now having my view deployed to the "public" I ran into another issue. Operators are complaining about not being able to access these views: You are not authorized to view [..]". A more concrete description: I added an Active Alert view for the Exchange administrators to see all Windows Server related alerts on the systems Exchange has been installed on. What am I doing wrong here? Of course I missed some items in regards to Windows Server but which? Would it be possible to separate the views the way I want i.e. display only the Windows Alert of the Exchange Servers or isn't this possible i.e. would I see all events on all Windows Servers whether or not Exchange is installed? Regards, M.

did you scope these users on "exchange"? if so they don't have the rights to see the "windows server". You should create a group with all the windows computer objects with exchange and then scope them on that group. Then they would be able to see all windows servers in that group and all roles on them (but they will lose some exchange views, you could create this scope in addition to what they see now)Rob Korving http://jama00.wordpress.com/

Hi Rob may have hit the problem for you - another possibility is the fact that if you give a role a scope to see View X and View Y, if you create View Z then you manually have to go back to the role scope and update the scope there. They won't be able to see View Z automatically. Cheers GrahamView OpsMgr tips and tricks at http://systemcentersolutions.wordpress.com/

Hello Rob, yes, this is true. I haven't added the Windows Servers to this group. What I have to do technically as I am still struggeling a bit with Explicit Members, Dynamic Members, Sub Groups etc.? What I did so far I created a group for the Exchange systems The formula looks like this ( ( Object is Windows Server Computer Group AND True ) AND ( Object is Exchange 2007 Computer Group AND True ) ) <- Is Windows Server / Exchange Computer Group the right group for scoping or Role or Instances? Defined the Group Scope on the above created group Defined the Views unfortunately this didn't work. What am I doing wrong? M.

exhange 2007 computer group in itself might be ok already. it's just a matter of how you set a scope. When you scoped on exchange objects you won't see computer objects. When the exchange 2007 computer group contains computer objects it should be ok though.Rob Korving http://jama00.wordpress.com/

Hello, honestly Views are driving me crazy... :( I created the view and defined the Display properties the way I want but the selected property, in this case Owner doesn't show up though. I have to select it explicitly in Personalize View and then it works!? Furthermore my Web Console some selected properties do not show up - what is the reason here? Regards, M.

When you make a view all the properties that you specify will be shown. However if you created a view and later on changed the properties of the view, it will still show your "personalised" view (aka the original one you made, which you didn't personalise at all). However, people that open the view for the first time will see the view as you've specified it. just keep in mind that it's a feature :) Rob Korving http://jama00.wordpress.com/
