Default quota limit
If no quota template has been assigned to a web site, is there a default quota limit that MOSS 2007 automatically assigns. As far as I know there is no such thing, rather that limit gets set by other boundaries, like physical hard drive space on the SQL Server box. Is this assumption correct? Thanks, Soumya

Hi, According to your description, I think you are right, but any change made to a quota template affects only new sites; it will not affect previously created sites. In libraries that have versioning enabled, the storage used for previous versions counts towards the site quota. I hope it can help you a little. Best regards, David Hu

Your assumption is correct. The problem is that if a SharePoint site hits a SharePoint quota it switches the site to ReadOnly gracefully and there is no data loss. But if a site hits the limit because you don't have enough disk space or room in SQL then you will probably crash the site and may well corrupt the database. You should not rely on physical limits. You should set Quota's on every site collection.Paul Stork SharePoint Server MVP
