Databases
Hi Can someone tell me how the databases (creation) are in SP 2010. New Web application = Creates a New Content database (WSS_Content_database name) New Site collections = ?? New sub site = ?? The reason for asking are that I have created 1 web app and 1 site collection - then I created 4 site collections - but on the manage content database I only see one (Wss_content)

Hi There, Each Web Application by default is associated with 1 Content Database with a default limit of 9000 site collections. You can change these values. If you want to design each site collection to have its own Content Database, you need to change the value to 1 or set the content database to read only, all of them, except the one where u want the site collection to be created if there are more than 1 content database. Sub sites use the same content database on which the site collection was created. Example: Web Application http://contoso.com - Database WSS_Contoso Site Collection "Root" http://contoso.com/pages/default.aspx Database WSS_Contoso Site Collection "HR Dept" http://contoso.com/Sites/HR Database WSS_Contoso_HR SubSite "HR Documents" http://contoso.com/sites/HR/docs Database WSS_Contoso_HR Hope this helps. Cheers! Dilip
