Have you tried deleting and recreating the data viewer?

I've had that problem with BIDS2005, but BIDS2008 seems to have cleared it up. Which version are you running? For 2005, my "best" solution was to remove all data viewers, and only create one at a time. That worked most of the time.

To this point (two weeks of debugging use) I haven't had one problem with the data viewer like I'd had in 2005. They seem to handle the viewers a little differently (better). In 2005, IIRC, the viewers were all shown as soon as your debugging session started - whether the flow had (or would) reach them or not. In 2008, the viewers are shown only when data reaches them (making it a little easier to know which viewer you should be paying attention to) and they do always "work", unlike my experience in 2005 where some would work and some wouldn't. Apart from that, I don't know what else to say... how about "good luck"?

Do your data viewers work anywhere, or is it just in this package?

thanks jwlesch, since your post i have tried other packages they all seem to fail now.it seems that it is a problem with the installation of BIDS/VB studio.any suggestion that you can offer?

My next automatic thought would be to: a) "repair" your BIDS installation by re-running the installer through Control Panel and choosing "repair" b) if"repair" doesn't work, uninstall and reinstall
