Data extension does not support model generation
So I created a report in VS2005 thanks to some help from this forum, and ended up with a nice looking pie chart. I wanted to go into my SharePoint list and re-create the datasource and create a model so that report builder would work through SharePoint. At first I tried uploading the data source I had created in VS, but that didn't work as it is of the type .rds, and SharePoint creates .rsds I make New-> Data Source, choose XML as my Type, http://[servername]/[subsite]/_vti_bin/lists.asmx as my Connection string with Windows Auth. I go to make a Model, choosing that datasource, and get this error: Data extension does not support model generation. (rsModelGenerationNotSupported) I tried searching on google and forums, but the only thing I found was thishttp://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/feedback/ViewFeedback.aspx?FeedbackID=238816, and that didn't work for me. Anyone know a workaround or solution? Thanks in advance! -Curt

Moving to Admin. Not SSRS or similar by the look of it so wrongly placed in the BI forum.WSS FAQ sites: WSS 2.0: http://wssv2faq.mindsharp.com WSS 3.0 and MOSS 2007: http://wssv3faq.mindsharp.com Total list of WSS 3.0 and MOSS 2007 Books (including foreign language titles) http://wss.asaris.de/sites/walsh/Lists/WSSv3%20FAQ/V%20Books.aspx

Given that this is a feature only available through SRSS, I'm having a tough time seeing how it's not BI related. I'm talking about SRSS Content Types , one of which being a Datasource that loses consistency from VS 2005 and SharePoint, but that is made available through SRSS Integration with SharePoint. Can someone move it back to the right place? Thanks

I too have the same issue and believe that it comes from the fact that you can not use a list or library as a data source for a model from sharepoint. I would have thought that this would be supported, but maybe the assumption is that no one would want to do this (really?). I was asked to figure this out and I have heard this is possible, but have not resolved being able to do it in BI or VS. It does not allow you to select XML as a datasource if you are trying to use BI or VS so is this possible or not???
