Dashboard Designer will not launch on 1 machine with any user account

Hi!

I currently have a Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise machine that I am trying to launch Dashboard Designer from using IE 11 and it will not launch.

I am greeted with an error message of:

An unexpected error has occurred. Please contact your administrator.

I have been googling around and I found one article stating to verify .NET framework is 3.5 SP1. That version is installed along with 4.5.1 and the machine is full patched to last weeks Patch cycle from Microsoft.

I am only having this problem on this machine. The machine is not a member of my domain if that make a difference? I have tried relaunching the installer multiple times, but it doesnt appear to actually install the software on the machine as I am not able to search for Dashboard Designer from my Search menu like I am on other machines that are working.

Not sure what else to do here, looking for some help.

Thank you.

Hi Chad,

I recommend to go into IE and enable 'Automatic prompting for file downloads' under (Tools > Internet Options > Security > Trusted sites > Custom level) to see if the issue can be resolved.

Please also add the site to trusted sites in IE and add to compatibility settings.

If above cannot work, please check ULS log for more detailed error message for further research.

For SharePoint 2010, by default, ULS log is at C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\LOGS.

Thanks,

Victoria

Thank you for your reply. I already have the site in Trusted sites, I made the change you mentioned, however it did not change the behavior. I am having trouble finding anything in the logs you mentioned. I checked all of my frontends and I do not see anything related to Designer.

Hi Chad,

If you access the dashboard designer in a non-domain computer, then you need to add your server and credentials to list of your passwords.

Please refer to the link below for more details:

Thanks,
