DTUtil without installing Integration Services SQL 2008
I had installed SQL Server 2008 (not R2) client tools (SSMS and BIDS) on my computer without installing any of the services, including Integration Services. I found DTUtil.exe and DTSInstall.exe in the expected folders but when I run either program I am informed that I need to install Integration Services in order to use these products. I want to deploy packages from my machine to an SSIS server on our network. One other thing that might be relevant. I installed SQL 2005 client tools after the SQL 2008 client tools. I then removed the 2005 client tools (long story). I don't think that this has any bearing on the problem I ended up doing a repair to the SQL 2008 install to fix a few annoyances. The closest thing that I found to address this problem is a hotfix for SQL 2008 R2 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2510668. But in our environment we are still using just SQL 2008. I would like to be able to run DTUtil without installing Integration Services. Is that possible? On a related topic. I couldn't find any way to save to SQL Server from BIDS 2008. I hadn't expected to be able to do so (even though R2 provides that functionality) but our DBA insists that there is a way to do it. Any comments?Russel Loski, MCITP Business Intelligence Developer and Database Developer 2008

I am in a very large company where change of any kind is frowned upon. Since my one change worked (installing SSIS on my box), I will wait to make any further changes. If I need to advise someone else, I will look at your suggestions. Thanks.Russel Loski, MCITP Business Intelligence Developer and Database Developer 2008

A fellow developer installed the latest service pack for SQL Server. She tried to install the cumulative update, but encountered some kind of login popup. She didn't try to login. She was unable to get dtutil to work. Perhaps the cumulative update will do the trick. I did note that I can run dtutil in SQL Server 2008 R2 on my machine at home. I have installed the server components, including SSIS. But with the SSIS Service not running, I was able to run dtutil without any problems.Russel Loski, MCITP Business Intelligence Developer and Database Developer 2008
