DPM Replica and Recovery point not dropped from DPM after migration

Hi All,

We recently migrated our DPM volumes from one Storage to another. The issue I have is one Repica and Recovery point volume is not being released. All the others have expired and the space returned to unallocated in disk management. For the specific PG owning the volumes I have decreased the retension and prunedshadowcopies but that space is still not being removed. Even other PGs added after this with the same retension were removed. I am unable to remove the old storage because of this.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

Please see the following thread for an updated stored procedure to help remove dangling snapshots and migrated volumes. It's valid for DPM2010 to DPM 2012 Sp1

Thanks, but even after following that posts my old volumes are still trailing.

Hi,

assign a drive letter to the dangling replica volume, then from an administrative command prompt run vssadmin list shadows and see if there are any dangling snaphots for that drive letter. If not, you can safely delete the volumes to free up that migrated disk.

What about the pointer in DPMDB? I found a query online that lists replicas and the associated Datasources and that volume is listed when I run that query. Just want to make sure that DPM wont have an issue after this is done.

Hi Mike,

Thanks, it seems the trailing pointer took some time. I did follow the instructions and the volumes were still there, however when I got into the office this morning and checked again the volumes are now gone. Thank you very much for your help!!!!

For anyone else having this issue, I followed the answer above but at first it did not remove it. I rebooted the server and ran pruneshadowcopiesdpm2010.ps1 again. The volumes still showed, but I guess it takes some time for it to completely be removed using this process.

Thanks again Mike.
