DPM 2012 Shadow copy Replicas - Access denied
Hi

We have Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 with DPM 2012 installed.

I have created shadow copies of Replicas for backup using DPMBackup.exe replica

Now when accessing the shadow copy folder I get Access Denied error from location C:\Program Files\Microsoft System Center 2012\DPM\DPM\Volumes\ShadowCopy\

Even its not allowing to add\change permissions nor allowing to copy shadowcopy folder to other location.

Hi,

This is not a DPM issue, it's Windows explorer has tighter security.  You can navigate to it using Administrative command prompt, and your backup application should also have access.

Hi

I  have already tried with Administrator command prompt but no luck

and it works with "NT Authority\System" ; So its permission issue

See this Link : See this Link

1) Download psexec.exe from www.sysinternals.com

2) Run PSEXEC -s cmd.exe (this will switch window to system context)

3) Afterwards - type WHOAMI it should return: nt authority\system

4) Now CD to the replica volume under program files\Microsoft DPM\DPM\Volumes\Shadowcopy\...

5) Copy the BMR backup to a folder/network location

Hi,

The only workload that I know you need to use that method for is BMR protection because the only account that has permissions to that replica are SYSTEM and the machine account of the protected machine.

Did you ever find a fix or better workaround?  I'm encountering the same issue since upgrading to DPM 2012.  In DPM 2010, this worked fine.  Now none of my scripts that archive off data from the ShadowCopy folder work.

Bumping this again - what an unbelievably annoying problem, did anyone find a neat fix?
