DPM 2012 R2 Disk Allocation method and Process

Hi,

i have to use DPM 2012 r2 Disk Backup hence I am looking for articles about below things in Advanced Details.

1. How DPM  2012 R2 allocate the Disk and Size for a Protection Group ?

2. How DPM 2012 R2 Calculate and assign  the Replica and Recovery Point Volume Size for a Particular Protection Group?

3. Is any Tool available for planning the Disk Capacity required for Backup?

4. I have to Protect around 3 TB data (Including Hyper-V Machines,SQL DBs and MailBox Database) with 30 days Retention, so how much Disk Space i need to assign in DPM Disk Pool ?

5. What is methods/process for replica and Recovery point Creation y Protection Group ?

6. How the Auto Grow Volume Features used through Protection

Hi Shailendra,

To answer question #1 read the following TechNet-article: Plan for disk backups.

For question #2 and #3 have a look at the following article(its is for DPM 2010 but still applies for DPM 2012): Allocating Space for Protection Groups. This will also help you answer question #4.

Question #5: A step-by-step guide to create Protection Groups(witch also creates replica and recovery points volumes) can be found here: Configure protection groups

At last have a look at the following article to understand the Auto Grow Volume feature: View or modify storage pool settings.
