DPM 2012 - Remote Administration

We have a fresh install of DPM 2012 on 2 servers (test and prod) and will have 3 Prod servers when we are done.  When I try to connect with the remote console I get the error "The computer servername is either not a DPM server or it does not support centralized management and troubleshooting. (ID 33321)."

Have we missed a configuration setting somewhere?  It happens on both the servers.  RDP works fine and I can access the SQL Server instance fine with SSMS.

thanks,

Hi,

Add the following program exceptions in windows firewall on the DPM server:

1. %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft System Center 2012\DPM\SQL\MSSQL10_50.<DPM SQL Instance>\MSSQL\Binn\sqlservr.exe
2. %ProgramFiles% (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Shared\sqlbrowser.exe

Thanks.

Windows Firewall is not turned on on the DPM servers.  Portquery shows 1433 is listening, and I am able to connect to the instance via SSMS.

we did install SQL Server prior to the DPM install because we wanted to use SQL Server 2012.  Is there a registry setting I need to correct so it can find the instance?

Hi,

Please check the additional requirements.

Unable to connect to the DPM database on SQL Server instance
<DPM Server>\<SQL INSTANCE>\DPMDB. (ID: 33210)

Verify that above instance of SQL Server meets the following requirements:

1) A firewall is not blocking requests from the DPM computer. For steps to configure the firewall on the SQL Server, follow the steps decribed here:
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=94001 .
2) The user running UI belongs to the Administrator group on the computer running the SQL Server instaqnce and the sysadmin role on the SQL Server instance.
3) The SQL Browser service is running on the SQL server.
4) TCP/IP protocol is enabled for the above instance of the SQL server.

I have verified:

Firewall is not on on the DPM server

I can access the database via ssms (port 1433) so tcp/ip is enabled

SQL Browser is running.

Port 6075 is open from workstation to dpm server yet I still get error 33106.

I am using the following string for connection:

<dpmservername>\<instance>\<dbname>

Hi SAS,

>snip<
I am using the following string for connection:

<dpmservername>\<instance>\<dbname>
>snip<

The GUI is only asking for FQDN of the DPM Sever.  IE: DPM1.contoso.com

Check DNS to be sure your DPM machine gets resolved properly.
