Windows Server 2012 is not listed yet. That functionnality will come with DPM 2012 Service Pack 1 release (no official date is out yet).
Hey Jrmy,
thanks for yours answer but this wasn't my question.
I want to know if there is supported fuctionnality to backup windows server 2012 hosts in dpm 2010. Or will i have to upgrade to dpm 2012 with sp1? Will there be an SP for dpm 2012 - can't found any information to this topic.
thanks,
Peter Kltzer
I am wondering the same, havent found any information about it either.
hoping some one with knowledge will see this thred.
/p
Hi Peter
I think you can by manually installing the agents on windows server 8 but dont think it is fully supported.

If the information is not listed on technet then it's not supported that's it.
DPM 2012 has no official date yet but it shouldn't be that long until it's released (by the end of the year hopefully as the CTP2 is under test).
Hi DareDevil57,
yes of course, but if its not (fully) supported (no information in technet to this scenario) i think you shouldn't do this in production environment - perhaps for testing purposes in a lab.

Sorry, i mean DPM 2010 - have you got information for a future update?
thanks,
Peter
I never heard about a service pack for DPM 2010.
Maybe you should contact the product team but i think their answer will be " migrate to DPM 2012 SP1"
I know this is an old topic, but from what I've tried, this is what you can and cannot do as far as using DPM 2010 to back up Windows Server 2012 (either R1 or R2), assuming the following:
a) You realize that some of this stuff may not be supported by Microsoft, so if you're going to do this, do this only to buy you enough time to get yourself some SCDPM 2012 R2 licensing or another backup solution.
b) Your DPM 2010 is fully patched (SP1, Update Rollup 6, the CU after that).
CAN DO (but not necessarily supported):
1) Protect a Windows Server 2012 (R1 or R2) physical server. You'll have to manually install the agent, though:
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff399459.aspx
2) Protect a Windows Server 2012 (R1 or R2) virtual server at the GUEST level. See #1 above.
3) Protect a Windows Server 2012 (R1 or R2) virtual server at the HOST level ONLY under both of these conditions:
a) The host is running Windows Server 2008 R2
b) Scoped snapshots are turned off in the registry. See: http://www.symantec.com/connect/forums/server-2012-backup
CANNOT DO:
1) Back up a Windows Server 2012 (R1 or R2) Hyper-V configuration.
2) Back up any virtual machine on a Windows Server 2012 (R1 or R2) Hyper-V configuration at the HOST level, regardless of the OS that the guest is running. See #2 above under CAN DO to work around that mess--the only problem being licensing here...
