DPM - Remove Protection Switched

Hi, We had two DPM 2012 SP1 servers running. DPM1 which had primary Protection Group and DPM2 which had secondary Protection Groups. DPM1 crashed and we had to switch the Protection Groups on DPM2 to be the primary. We had to build a new DPM Server, DPM3. Our intension is to make this a secondary to DPM2, however the Protection Groups in DPM2 say Protection-Switched. How can we set up DPM3 is be a secondary Protection Group for DPM2 without removing/recreating the Protection Groups? I dont want to lose the 60 retention we have.

Thanks

Hi,

Once a secondary DPM server, always a secondary DPM server.  There is no supported way to revert it to act as a primary for those data sources.  The correct way to recover is to rebuild the DPM1 primary using the backup of the DPMDB.

You are presented with this dialog when adding secondary protection, so hopefully you have a good backup of the DPM1 database so you can rebuild it properly.  Once rebuilt, you can switch protection back.
