DPM - Reading Imported Tape - Fails / Crashes MMC

Recently reinstalled Windows Server 2012 R2 , SQL Server 2012 & SCDPM 2012 R2 with UR7.

After this I've installed got everything working as I wanted it and believed everything going smoothly, until now.

I can't seem to get around this problem at all. Whenever I click "View Contents" or "Recatalog" tape I get a crash of MMC, the problem closes and doesn't help me get data from the tape.

Does anyone have any suggestions to fix this error?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Oliver,

What kind of manufacturer and model is your tape library?

Kind Regards

Hi Markus,

In device manager the tape drive appears as "IBM ULTRIUM-HH5 SCSI Sequential Device".

Hardware ID "SCSI\SequentialIBM_____ULTRIUM-HH5_____E6Q3".

This connects to a server, PowerEdge 2950, via a 6gbps SAS cable.

The Model of the tape is a "Dell PowerVault LTO5-140".

The Server uses a 6gbps SAS HBA card which shipped with the server. There is also a "Dell PowerVault MD1200" attached as a DAS over the same card and identical SAS Cable, however I'm having no issues with this.

Trying to be specific for you, hope this helps.

Regards,

Oliver.

Hi All,

To get round this issue I removed and reinstalled DPM.

This solved the issue but has left me without the updated software.

If I apply Updates from 2012 R2 CU1 through to 2012 R2 CU7 the problem returns.

Any ideas?

Regards,

Oliver.

Hi.

I have the same problem, except that I have another tape library (IBM TotalStorage 3573).

The problem occurs only on some tapes. Probably only on the tape which a copy of the old server that no longer exists. That server don't have any active or inactiveProtection Group configured on DPM server.

Hello,

I've just enter a request to microsoft support. I'll keep you update if I get a fix.

They cannot tell exactly, but the cycle is normally 3 months. That means in October eventually.
