DNS issue
i had 2003 domain and i have successfully migrate to a win 2008 r2 and I demote the 2003 domain. And later I thought of having additional DC to provide high availability of DC. So I did it and the additional DC server was running for quite long time and then its started giving me some errors so I demote that server and removed it from my network. After that I experienced that the folliwng warning message in DNS log. Could you please let me know is any one has solution for this and is it ok to keep this warning in my environment ignore it and run the this DNS server. Because I am really worrying about this warning. Note that my domain and DNS both running in same win 2008r2 server The warning message is .. Event Type: Warning Event Source: DNS Event Category: None Event ID: 4013 Date: 9/25/2011 Time: 4:11:51 PM User: N/A Computer: ABC-SRV-02.abc.lk Description: The DNS server is waiting for Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) to signal that the initial synchronization of the directory has been completed. The DNS server service cannot start until the initial synchronization is complete because critical DNS data might not yet be replicated onto this domain controller. If events in the AD DS event log indicate that there is a problem with DNS name resolution, consider adding the IP address of another DNS server for this domain to the DNS server list in the Internet Protocol properties of this computer. This event will be logged every two minutes until AD DS has signaled that the initial synchronization has successfully completed. For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

The question here is does the dns service start? if so, you can safely ignore this one (like the event says, if it keeps getting logged every 2 minutes you have a problem, but otherwise it's just a startup alert).Rob Korving http://jama00.wordpress.com/
