DNS URL Setting for Webservers and the Load balencer
I have to develop a farm at a company using SharePoint 2007 and Microsoft Project Server (MSPS) 2007 sp3. The servers are: Hardware Load Balancer (DNS: EPM.company.com) Web1 (web server) (DNS: w1.company.com) Web2 (web server) (DNS: w2.company.com) PS1 ( Project Server app server) SP1 ( SharePoint app server) IDX1 (Index server) DB1 (database server) I have created the farm with following services in each server: Web1 and Web2 (Windows SharePoint Services Web Application) PS1 (Project Server app server) SP1 (Central Administration) IDX1 (Office SharePoint Server Search) The PWA URL that I am able to get is http://Web1/pwa. I have added another internet URL http://Web2/pwa in Alternate Access Mapping so that the second webserver can also be used. But the client wants me to configure both webservers with DNS names (w1.company.com/pwa, w2.company.com/pwa) so that the already configured load balancer can forward the requests (EPM.company.com/pwa) to any of the web servers. Can anyone guide me that what I need to do to fulfill this requirement? Also have I started right services on each on the servers? I would appreciate your response! Thanks!,

Modify the Alternate access mappings again: add url http://epm.company.com modify url http://web1 to http://w1.company.com modify url http://web2 to http://w2.company.com That should do it. With regards to the services, you could start excel services on the app server as well and may also the Query role on either bot front end servers of if you want to off-load that to the app server, start it there. Query service = Office SharePoint Server Search, but only the option use this server for query.Dirk Van den Berghe

Thanks for your response, it was really helpful. I followed your instructions and have added the entries in Alternate Access Mapping. But I believe I have made any mistake in it as whenever I access the site through http://epm.company.com the URL always changes to http://w1.company.com. So i think, the request never goes to the second web server. Currently AAM is configured like this: Internal URL Zone Public URL for Zone http://w1.company.com Default http://w1.company.com http://epm.company.com Default http://w1.company.com http://w2.company.com Internet http://w2.company.com I would highlight one more thing that this is companys internal website and will be accessed from securred Intranet not from Internet. Would you or any other person please suggest any change in it? Thanks again!

change AAM settings to: Internal URL Zone Public URL for Zone http://epm.company.com Default http://epm.company.com http://w2.company.com Intranet http://w2.company.com http://w1.company.com Intranet http://w1.company.com this will stop the URL translationDirk Van den Berghe
