DNS Issue: default.aspx won't load
OK, I'm almost too embarassed to ask this...I've been so far removed from my admin days I've forgot how to solve this DNS issue: (Pardon the Verbose explaination; just being thourough).... I got dang near a "pristine" install of wss 3.0 on the following topology: SBS 2003 Server w/Wss 2.0 (not used really, but read on) ....and on another box have 2008 Server R2 w/ wss 3.0 ....this is a single NIC topology: both server boxes plug into a switch, which plugs into a router which plugs into my cable modem (which has a fixed external IP) ..... I'm using 192.168.1.x subnet ...nothing out of the ordinary .... on client machines the page "2008server.default.aspx" will load "sometimes", but often to get it to load I sometimes have to put in the IP address of the server (default.aspx being the team/home page for wss 3.0) - client machines have fixed IP's on the same subnet because I'm not running DHCP service on the server (I use a cisco router for DHCP as I got too many wireless smartphones, visitors, et et needing internet access)....for Name servers I point my clients to the SBS 03 box (primary) AND use a 2nd external NS (like 8.8.8.8)... I got IE 8.0 on the client boxes (both servers are set to "local intranet w/usrn automatic logon), proper permissions for the user are set in bot wss 3.0 & wss 2.0 "companyweb" ....I got DNS forwarders on the SBS 03 box to point to my ISP's NS and to 8.8.8.8...beyond that I see nothing really funky in my DNS zones to prevent resolving "servername.default.aspx" to get a page load on the client machines....both servers got "A" & PTR records, since "companyweb" works and has a cname record, can I do the same for my wss 3.0 team page?, and or should I...if so how? (If I right click to add cname I don't see the FQDN of my 2008 box) .... do I just physically type in the FQDN of my 2008 box or do I put in the FQDN plus "default.aspx"
