DB Log File Space for tempdb.log????
Hello, I reviewied the Monitor "DB Log File Space". Why is it applied to the tempdb? it seems for me it does not need to be as it is surevthe tempdb.log will always be filled up and then emptied and then filled up and so on... Which process is suppose to empty the tempdb.log? Which Cycle is it suppose to run? SQL - Management Pack 6.3.173.0 installed SCOM - CU5 Installed This alert is coming on almost all servers now, is it an issue with my environment or with the Management Pack? Do I need to change the size of all tempdb log files? do I need to chnage the threshold of the alert? What are the best practices? Lower Threshold: Double 10 Upper Threshold: Double 20 is it not HIGH for log files? You should be able to exclude log files by name. Do you see that as an overrideable parameter? If not, then create a group of tempdb log files in your environment and override disable this monitor for that group. Problem solved.Regards, Blake Email: mengotto<at>hotmail.com Blog: http://discussitnow.wordpress.com/

TempDB is used for A LOT of things and for most of the databases that are on an instance. A DBA should know what the tempdb should be set at, bot the DB size and log file. They should monitor this and get an idea of what the normal range is and from that point monitoring should be set up to monitor for those "norms". Anything outside the norms means there is a potential issue and or someone made a change without telling anyone. Personally I wouldn't override disable this for tempdb, but if that is what my customers requested then I would have no choice.' Best practices for this, I don't know, but I do know that best practices are suggested guidelines. Every organization is different and has different requirements. The best practice I live by is measure it, baseline it, monitor it. Regards, Blake Email: mengotto<at>hotmail.com Blog: http://discussitnow.wordpress.com/
